Income Tax Return 2025: New Features, Deadlines and Key Points to be reviewed Correctly

The 2025 Income Tax Return filing period is now underway and will run until June 30th, or until June 25th if you choose direct debit. As every year, this period is crucial for reviewing your tax situation and ensuring that everything is filed correctly.

Before getting into the new developments, there is one key recommendation: carefully review your draft Tax Return before confirming it.

Why is it Important to Review the draft Tax Return?

The draft provided by the Tax Agency is a good starting point, but it does not always include all the necessary information or all the Tax deductions you may be entitled to.

Factors such as regional Tax deductions, family circumstances, or certain expenses may not be automatically reflected. Therefore, reviewing your tax return in detail, or seeking tax advice, is key to filing correctly.

Main Changes in the 2025 Income Tax

This year’s Tax Return Campaign includes some important changes that you should be aware of.

One of the most significant changes concerns the Obligation to file an Income Tax Return. Those whose income does not exceed the minimum interprofessional wage, set at €16,576, will not be required to file. Furthermore, those receiving unemployment benefits will no longer have to file a return solely for that reason, provided they do not exceed the general income limits.

Regarding the Taxation of savings, a new Tax bracket is added for incomes exceeding €300,000, which will now be taxed at 30%. This measure primarily affects Taxpayers with significant investments, Dividends, or Capital Gains.

A New Income Tax deduction of up to 340 euros is also being introduced for Taxpayers with incomes below 18,276 euros, providing Tax relief for lower incomes.

Another significant change affects the imputation of Real Estate income. In the 2023, 2024, and 2025 Tax years, the reduced rate of 1.1% applies to properties whose cadastral values have been revised, modified, or determined through a general collective valuation procedure, provided that these values came into effect on or after January 1, 2012. Therefore, it should no longer be explained using the reference to the “last ten years,” but rather with that fixed date.

Similarly, in the area of gambling, losses incurred during the same Tax period can be deducted up to the limit of winnings obtained from gambling during that same year. This can be relevant, for example, on online poker or betting platforms where transactions are recorded and properly documented.

Furthermore, the exemption from Personal Income Tax (IRPF) is extended to certain compensations for civil liability for physical or psychological damages when they are not determined judicially, but rather through mediation or another Legally established means of dispute resolution. To qualify, several requirements must be met, including the involvement of a neutral third party, the execution of the agreement in a public Deed, payment of the compensation by the insurer of the party responsible for the damage, and that the exempt amount does not exceed the scale applicable to traffic accidents.

Deductions in the 2025 Income Tax Return

Tax deductions remain one of the most important aspects when it comes to optimizing your Tax Return.

Existing incentives remain in place, such as the 15% deduction for the purchase of electric vehicles or for the installation of charging points, as well as deductions for energy efficiency works in homes, which can reach between 40% and 60%.

Furthermore, donations to NGOs continue to offer very significant tax advantages, with deductions that can reach up to 80% in the first stages.

Regional Tax Deductions: New Developments in Andalusia

At the regional level, Andalusia incorporates New Deductions that should be taken into account when filing your Income Tax Return.

Among them are:

  • Up to 100 euros for Gym Expenses
  • Up to 100 euros for Veterinary Expenses
  • 100 euros per Celiac Patient for each member of the family unit
  • 200 euros per Birth, Adoption or Foster care
  • Rental deductions of up to 1,200 or 1,500 euros

These deductions do not always appear in the draft, so it is advisable to review them specifically.

Key Dates for the Tax Return Campaign

To file your Tax Return on time, it is important to keep the following dates in mind:

  • April 8: Campaign begins
  • May 6: Start of telephone support
  • June 1st: Start of in-person services
  • June 25: Deadline for direct debit payments
  • June 30: Last day to file the declaration

Rent Payment Methods

If your Tax Return results in a payment due, you can split the payment into two interest-free installments:

  • 60% at the time of presentation
  • 40% on November 5, 2026

You can also pay by direct debit or Bizum, an increasingly popular option.
